About me
While studying for my MA I curated the new media gallery at The Media Centre, Huddersfield and later worked alongside Matt Locke at TEST commissioning, among other digital artworks, one of first ever participatory mobile phone projects, Static and the dynamic public space platform Speakers’ Corner.
Since 1999 as the co-director of Blink, the pioneering interaction design company commended in the British Interactive Media Awards, I have devised and managed the ground breaking made-for-mobile short film commissioning scheme Pocket Shorts, showcased at the Rotterdam and Edinburgh International Films Festivals and franchised to Scottish Screen, and continue to develop Bluevend – a unique Bluetooth vending machine for creative mobile phone content, installed in Tate Britain and featured in the Independent on Sunday. Rooted in locative media technologies and developing initiatives which have opened up mobile phones as new creative production and distribution platforms, our primary focus is always on the participant and stimulating a response from non-arts audiences.
In 2008 I became a founder member and the Chair of BASE – a group of new media technology practitioners of international standing working in social media and generative gaming. I attended Chi2008, the pre eminent international conference in computer science, as an invited participant of Intel and Microsoft’s workshop discussing the use of technology at night.
Since 2006 I have directed and programmed the annual creative technology showcase event We Love Technology. I also write this We Love Technology blog that tries to focuses on contemporary new media art research and practice and architectural innovation.
