Blaze is an ambitious youth led culture and sport programme taking place across Lancashire, from the Fylde coast to the Pennines. It is part of WE PLAY, the North West cultural legacy programme for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The theme of the programme is routes and trails; making new connections between people and places, sport and arts, and physical and virtual worlds.

In the lead up to 2012 young people are realising their creative aspirations, producing a dynamic programme of new work which will excite, surprise and engage residents and visitors to Lancashire and the Fylde Coast.

Young people have been busy over the last couple of months, working with Preston based design agency Wash, to rebrand and rename the programme. Formerly ‘New Cultural Journeys’, the new name and design is short, snappy and dynamic, reflecting the energy of the young people as the work takes on a new dimension, and as they step up to take ownership of the project.

Blaze will be launched at 53degrees in Preston at the end of May 2010 with a preview of “Skater Symphony”, a skater controlled music and video challenge utilising BMX ramps and laser trip technology.

A full web site is currently being created. It will feature news, photos, videos, blogs, a calender, information about the creative programme and how to get involved.

Blaze is delivered in partnership with Lancashire County Council, Blackpool Council and Creative Lancashire.

WE PLAY is funded by Legacy Trust UK, an independent charity set up to help build a lasting cultural and sporting legacy from the 2012 Olympic Games. WE PLAY is led by new regional partnerships and managed by Arts Council England, North West.
