Leo Baxendale the Beano cartoonist who created iconic characters such as Minnie the Minx and The Bash Street Kids among others unwittingly reveals why the world of comics and mobile phones seem to share similar characteristics.
“I isn’t like TV or anything like that. It’s a world of initimate delights where the reader has control. On TV someone else determines how long you experience the story with comics you can go back and reread at your leisure. There is an illusion that even though there may be millions copies out it’s the readers own special experience. I was always aware when I was drawing that my work would be held in the hand of a child and be in close focus.”
